My photography has been with a series of 35mm’s over the years most recently a DSLR and a upper end point and shoot. I am a self taught senior who has used Picasa as my sole editing and storage process since I first started using a computer about 15 years ago. I appreciate your suggestions especially because as I recall you helped people like me with Picasa as you do now with Google Photos. Thank you for getting back to me so promptly. I’ll first search your database of questions, of course, but I may soon be asking for help w/ process flow as I begin to embrace RAW photos along w/ my cellphone photos. Thank you for your offer to work one-on-one, but I’ll defer that until such time as I get more facile w/ GP.

I’ll continue experimenting as I get more comfortable w/GP. Your Picasa trick will fix that for the un-numbered photos.

Q: If I select & “pull” several Windows folders into GP – as a sort of a “batch” upload, will GP query me for each folder so I can name each one, or will they all get disaggregated into the global GP date-sort.Īs for the photo order, I have used a Picasa option to export w/ numbering for many of my Picasa exports, but not for all (I don’t think that option has always been part of Picasa).

I’ll probably copy the Windows folder name & paste it into the GP request for an album name. I had viewed your 432.GP-Manual Upload from Windows before, but managed to skate by the option to upload contents of a Windows folder to a new GP album. Someday, Google Photos may add the ability to sort by filename. So, your only choices are to change the dates, or manually drag them into order once they are in a Google Photos album. How do I retain the Picasa order? Or must I accept the scramble & hand order within GP? Changing the metadata dates using Picasa Tools will give them the same date before migration, but they are then scrambled in a different way. Seems they will get scrambled in the GP pull into a GP album. If I am destined to create GP albums one by one from my Picasa Export folders, is there a way to retain their order in the migration? b/c these Picasa Export folders are frequently “curated” they will have a mixture of dates. I can of course create an album inside GP typing in folder name & selecting all the photos in my computer’s folder, but that will be a painful process if I must do it many times. It would be nifty if I could upload said folder to an album in GP, retaining the folder title, but I’m not having much luck. The folder created by the Picasa Export process has a decent-enough title reflecting the contents. I have dozens of albums containing photos w/ a mixture of dates which have been Picasa-exported so they would capture all edits. I am attempting to migrate photos from Picasa to GP, but fear I am going to lose control of aggregations (i.e., Picasa albums).
